Fats
Fats are always an important source of energy. They absorb certain vitamins and minerals, build cell membranes and are important for blood clotting, reducing inflammation and muscle movement.
Fats can be categorised into good and bad fats. Good fats are monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats. They help increase good cholesterol. Good cholesterol plays a key role in the proper functioning of the heart. Omega-3 fatty acids containing food can act as an anti-inflammatory for your body.
For example, avocados are high in fat, but it’s good fat! Avocados, canola oil, and nuts all have good fats. Not all fats are good for you!
Bad fats are Saturated fats and trans fats that mostly come from the hydrogenation process of vegetable oils.
Eating foods rich in high trans fat and saturated fats are harmful and cause inflammation or artery blockages leading to serious conditions such as diabetes and heart disease or even a stroke.
Trans fats are found in baked foods that are made with partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, like fried foods, chips, cream and margarine.
Common foods that have saturated fats include cheese, coconut oil, whole milk, and red meat.
You can know bad fat mostly if any oil or fat is in solid state at room temperature like for example butter, margarine, beef or pork fat are all solids at normal temperature.
Good fats are mostly in a liquid state at room temperature
Carbohydrates
Eaten in moderate amounts, carbohydrates can be a healthy tool to help your body get valuable nutrients.
Carbs (or any foods) produced with controlled processing are good choices. For example, whole grain bread is a healthier choice than refined white bread.
It is always very difficult to determine good or bad carbs. But one of the easiest ways to consider is to ask yourself whether the product is found in nature
If yes, you know it’s not processed and of course, it's a good carb.
Chips, cookies, pastries, jams, jellies, pasta, ice cream, pizza, burgers etc., don’t exist in nature, but instead are formed from altered and refined whole grains and ultimately become forms of sugars and starches.
Most doctors would agree that getting antioxidants and vitamins from the foods you eat is the best way to get your daily dose in.
Organic foods
Organic foods have zero pesticides, antibiotics, and most additives, but yes organic snack foods are processed and filled with just as much sugar as non-organic snack foods.
